Introduction to Backpacking
Have you ever had the urge to just take off into the woods overnight but lacked the experience to try it on your own? This experience will introduce the novice hiker to the adventure of backpacking and camping! Led by Christine McAllister, NYS DEC certified guide, this class is open individuals older than 18 years of age and families, including children who are able to hike the required length, provided they are accompanied by at least one parent or guardian. Please note: This class is intended for beginners! You DO NOT need to have your own camping gear and you only need to be able to hike approximately 2-3 miles at one time! This program will start with camping and hiking basics through two hands-on classroom sessions. The class will cover proper camping gear and clothing, physical preparation requirements, campfire building and cooking, tent set-up and many other camping basics. Then we will take our new experiences into the field for an overnight backpacking trip in Hi-Tor Wilderness Area, just outside of Naples.
Overnight Trip
At the first meeting you can let us know which weekend you will participate: Saturday, July 19 to July 20 OR Saturday, August 2 to August 3. We meet at High Tor Wilderness area at noon on Saturday and will return to our cars around 11:00 the following morning. High Tor is a Wilderness Area owned and operated by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Camping is by permit only and we will be the only group camping in our designated area on the days shown above. It is a perfect environment for the novice backpacker and allows for a relaxed atmosphere for learning the basics and having fun! Family Fun Trail Hikes
Come join the Friends of Webster Trails (FWT) on their hikes/walks in and around Webster. The FWT has been leading these monthly walks for the past two years to help acquaint the community with walking/hiking possibilities in and around Webster. Just dress for the weather, wear proper shoes, bring water if desired and show up at 2:00 PM the third Sunday of each month. You will be met by the designated trail leader, usually an FWT board member. These walks are held regardless of weather conditions. Families of all ages are welcome! Kiwanis Kids Fishing Derby
The Kiwanis Club of Webster and Webster Parks and Recreation Department are teaming up once again to bring you a fun-filled day of fishing. Grab your poles and head to North Ponds Park for a morning of great fishing. Try your luck at catching the biggest fish or the smallest fish! Lunch, prizes and T-shirts will be provided by the Kiwanis Club. Non-resident fee does not apply.

Junior/Adult Tennis Lessons
This tennis program is set up to accommodate all levels of play. The goal will be to teach basic strokes and later to put them into drills and games that show tennis can be a lot of fun to play. Placement will be determined by age and ability. Veterans’ Memorial Park is located in the Town of Penfield, behind Penfield Town Hall, 3100 Atlantic Avenue. There is also an entrance to the park off Jackson Road.

A giant inflated iceberg has been spotted at the Webster Aquatic Center, 875 Ridge Road. A full "14 feet of fun", this enormous pool toy has climbing grips on three sides and a giant slide on the fourth. Iceberg explorers can climb and slide to their heart’s content. Recommended for ages 12 and older. If younger thrill seekers wish to attempt the climb they must be accompanied by an adult in the water. General admission is $5 per person or $10 per family (up to five). WAC member cost is $3 per person or $6 per family. Note: Sunday "free swim" time and "free visit" passes to the WAC do not apply to Iceberg. Please call the Webster Aquatic Center for additional information, 585-670-1081.

Karate
This program is for new or returning students of any ability level. Students will be introduced to traditional martial arts and American Freestyle Karate. Emphasis is on physical and aerobic conditioning technique, forms, free sparring, practical self-defense and sport karate. Students learn discipline, respect and good sportsmanship. Ranks are based on established testing standards and awards based on student effort. Parent participation and/or attendance is required for children 5 - 7 years old. Please note: Those registering for just one day per week must decide between Monday or Wednesday and attend only on that day. For this program a family is defined as one parent and one or two children. (The gym is not guaranteed every night.)
