American Red Cross Babysitting and First Aid

This course is designed to provide 11-15 year olds the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants.  Through hands-on activities, interactive video and lively discussions, this course will help participants to care for children and infants, develop leadership skills, keep themselves and others safe, handle emergencies such as injuries, illness and household accidents and learn how to develop a babysitting business. The successful candidate will receive certification as an American Red Cross babysitter as well as certification in American Red Cross First Aid.  Students are required to bring a self-addressed stamped envelope to the class.  An American Red Cross Babysitter’s Kit will be available for purchase on the day of class, but is not required.  Kits cost $10 each and are payable in cash or by check to the American Red Cross.  Indicate on your registration form if you are interested in a kit. Please bring a brown bag lunch.

Squadron Boating Course for Youth

This is a comprehensive boating course, teaching the fundamentals of safe boating operation in a format that is user friendly for young boaters. The course requires a minimum of 8 hours of classroom discussion.  The following topics are covered:  Boat Operation, Boating Related Activities, Boats and Motors, Required Equipment, Fueling and Operation, Accidents and Emergencies, Fueling and Ventilation, Marine Environment, Navigation, Numbering and Registration, Personal Watercraft (PWC), Rules of the Road, and Safe Loading and Powering. All materials are supplied by NYS.  Upon satisfactory completion of a proctored exam at the end of the classroom presentation, the student will leave the class with a temporary boating certificate; a permanent card will be mailed from Albany.  This certificate meets the NYS requirement for PWC Operation for boaters. Please bring a lunch. This program will run the same time as the adult class. If you have any question contact Annette 377-2151.

Home Alone

Children need to learn personal safety skills for those times when they must be home alone. This workshop will be fun, informative, and encourage children to feel comfortable and competent. There will be visits from a Webster police officer and the Webster Fire Marshal

Pet First Aid

This course is designed to train dog and cat owners how to respond to life-threatening emergencies such as choking, poisoning, and exposure to extreme weather conditions.  Use life-like dog and cat manikins to learn how to perform pet CPR and First Aid, recognize symptoms and provide care for common pet emergencies such as allergic reactions and car accidents.  Course includes a text book with DVD that will continue to serve as a reference for the pet owner.  An American Red Cross Pet First Aid kit will be available for purchase from the instructor the day of the class, but is not required.  Please indicate on your registration form if you are interested in purchasing a kit. Kits are $16, payable in cash or checks made out to American Red Cross.  Each kit is stocked with a wealth of first aid supplies including gauze, cleansing pads and solution, a pen flash light, mylar emergency blanket and more. Also included is a basic first aid instruction card.
