Research shows that hearing toddlers who are taught a few simple American Sign Language (ASL) signs speak sooner, have higher IQs, are less frustrated, have wider vocabularies, are able to communicate their wants and needs before they can talk, become better readers, and develop deeper parental bonds. This class is designed for tots 12 - 36 months old and their parent (or caregiver). During each class participants will be introduced to a variety of simple ASL signs. We will use music, books and other playful activities to help tots and adults learn while having fun! Supplies are included.

Hey Kids...have you ever dreamed of being a world famous chef? The kitchen is yours. We will create some kid-friendly recipes and eat the final product! This program will introduce children to the basics of cooking and kitchen safety. We will make something simple the first week because we will need time to make aprons for all of our little chefs. All children should bring an adult along to serve as an assistant. Please indicate any food allergies your child has on your registration form. Please note: We are unable to include any siblings as part of the program. Also if your child has attended this class previously, some recipes may be repeated.

Dr. L. Berta Saurus, a paleontologist from the Rochester Museum and Science Center will visit us to explore the world of dinosaurs. Dr. Saurus will let the children “create” fossils, take part in a mock dig, and role-play as dinosaurs to explore how these creatures moved, ate, and defended themselves. This program is being offered during the school break.

April 22nd is Earth Day, a day to celebrate the environment. The first Earth Day was organized in 1970 to promote the ideas of ecology and encourage respect for life on earth. This program is all about reusing materials to make new things. We will turn old cereal boxes into attractive magazine holders and greeting cards will be transformed into boxes. You will also use model magic to make a 3-D model of planet Earth. We will plant herbs in tin can pots and you can watch them grow all summer long! All materials will be provided.

Girls on the Run is a life-changing, non-competitive, non-profit prevention program for girls in 4th and 5th grade. Our mission is “to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.” Along with learning about healthy lifestyle, we will be training for a 5K race to run at the end of this 12-week program.
